There are many traditions
in a typical wedding ceremony. One that is common to most every wedding
yet often taken for granted is the cake. At one time or another most of
us have marveled at the skill used in delicately balancing the three tiers
of the "common" wedding cake. And, unfortunately, if for one reason or
another they dislike the cake, most people will probably complain to someone.
The cake is an important
part of every wedding reception. Like the gown, many brides have an image
of what the "perfect" cake should look like. Then again, many
brides do not even think of the cake till the last minute. Here are several
factors to consider when deciding on your cake.

| |
|
 |
| The
cake should look like it belongs at your wedding. This simple concept is
very important yet often overlooked when planning the reception. Take advantage
of your bakers experience. You can take pictures of the reception hall prior
to ordering the cake. The pictures will help you and the baker decide on
an appearance that compliments or plays off the surroundings. A white cake
will be very striking in a colorful environment. Don't be afraid to show
originality. The bride and groom can choose a cake that reflects their unique
personalities and lifestyle and they should exercise their right to do just
that. Most bakers will have pictures of their work to help you get ideas
but you certainly don't have to choose a cake that looks exactly like any
of those pictures. At Debbie's Delights we are experienced in sculpting
cakes from the traditional to the spectacular and we'll work with you to
make sure you are completely satisfied with whatever type of cake you choose. |

 |
| This
should be an important aspect of choosing a cake though it often takes a
back seat to appearance. Your cake will be more special to you and your
guests if it is pleasing and delicious. You should probably consider the
most popular flavors and choose one that you are confident most people will
like. Something like carrot cake, though delicious, may be too unusual for
everyone to enjoy. |
| |
 |
| You
may be tempted to have your cake made well in advance to be absolutely sure
that it will be ready for your ceremony. Do this and you can also be sure
that not many people will enjoy it. Cake's taste and texture will reveal
their age if made too far in advance, so be careful and plan accordingly!
Provide your baker with plenty of advance notice so your cake will be made
fresh and delivered on time. |
| |
 |
| Try
to make sure the cake is "in balance" with the rest of the reception. In
other words, order a cake that compliments the rest of the meal and the
style or ambiance of the reception. If you are having other chocolate desserts
you may want to order something other than a chocolate cake. If you are
planning to have a cozy, intimate reception of family and close friends
an exquisite ten-layer masterpiece may not be appropriate. Consider the
"big picture" when designing your cake. |
| |
. |
| Keep
in mind, the cake is most likely the centerpiece of the entire reception.
It is your chance to make a statement and it should make an impression.
It can be anything you like, German chocolate, quadruple-tiered with the
figures of the whole bridal party on top or an elegant medieval castle with
knight and princess. It's your cake and you can design it however, you like
it. It should not be a forgotten part of the ceremony, glanced at once and
never mentioned again. The cake should be something you are proud of and
excited about. At Debbie's Delights we understand that and take pride in
each and every cake we deliver. |
